HUBER+SUHNER has
launched the new product family of
Smart DC Kits.
These new innovative products establish DC powering
for Remote Radio Heads (RRH) of mobile communication
base stations in specific scenarios reusing
redundant coaxial feeders that have been
decommissioned.
In recent network upgrades,
conventional cell sites using corrugated cables are
often converted into remote radio systems. The
installed corrugated cables are decommissioned, cut
at both ends and re-used as supply lines for the
RRHs. The inner and outer conductor of a corrugated
cable are used for the power supply. The special
Power Smart DC adapter is fitted at both ends of the
corrugated cable, guaranteeing secure and reliable
contacts.
Cost and time saving
The Smart DC Kits development
is the result of technical progress, new
standardized RRH BTS equipment of the OEMs and
especially the accompanying effect of saving
tremendous amounts of electrical power. The latter
has developed to a key expense factor for the
operators after all the network expansions driven by
the unbelievable success of mobile communications.
Complete swaps make the old equipment redundant
resulting in dismantling it. This will be part of
the swapping costs eventually. Part of it can be
saved for the corrugated feeder cables and even be
turned into additional cost and time benefits by
re-using of these old feeders as power supply
cables.
Unique competitive
situation
The idea of re-using the
corrugated cables both for power supply and
protecting the FO feed has been established with a
worldwide acting operator. The solution has been
implemented as “Best Practice” under the term FiPro
(Fibre and Power to the roof) within the
organization. Following a very professional approach
HUBER+SUHNER has designed high current capacity
Smart DC Kits superior to the competition. They meet
even the highest requirements of RRH powering.
